Veronica (Ronnie) Mikrut Cattell of Garrett, IN, passed away on March 12 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Born August 15, 1928 to parents who migrated from Poland, she was named Weronika Mariana, the youngest of 7 children.  She was raised in a Polish neighborhood in Pittsburgh, where life revolved around St. Adalbert's Catholic Church.

On July 4th, 1949, she married the love of her life, Joseph Cattell at St. Adalbert's in Pittsburgh. They were blessed with 3 children and celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to his death in 2013.

Ronnie, lovingly known as Irene to her family in Pittsburgh, was truly loving and devoted to her family.  She held tight to Polish traditions, often vocalizing a string of Polish words that left the family wondering "What did she say?". She enjoyed family gatherings and insisted we start all holidays and family get together with a puk while proclaiming

Na Zdrowie ! (Cheers).

She is survived by her 2 children, Bruce (Shellie) Cattell, Beth (Doug) Scherer and son-in-law Ron Niccum.  She has 8 wonderful grandchildren; Zach (Becca) Cattell, Douglas (Lauren) Niccum Amanda (Ryan) Waybright, Brian (Kerry) Niccum, Maggie Cattell (Matt), Brandon (Kristin) Scherer, Hannah Cattell and Michaela (Jordan) Isaac.  She is blessed with 9 great-children, with number 10 expected in August.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Niccum; her parents Frank and Mary Mikrut and her 6 siblings; Stella, Frank Walter, Bernard, Josephine and Matthew.

We her family, celebrate her life with us, and now her life in heaven.

Visitation will take place from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Garrett, IN

Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery – Garrett, IN
