Walter S. Helf age 92 of Auburn, IN died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor - Garrett, IN. He was born May 11, 1919 in Edgerton, OH to Jay M. and Emma A. (Stoll) Helf and they preceded him in death. He married Mary K. Smith on August 15, 1939 in West Unity, OH and she died September 30, 2003. Walter was a brakeman and conductor on the B & O Railroad for 26 years, retiring in 1972. Walter is survived by his daughter: Karen S. (Kenneth L.) Smith, Waterloo, IN; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his son in-law: David A. (Kathie) Crowe, New York and a brother and sister: Don Helf, Sylvania, OH and Evelyn Beals, AZ. Walter was preceded in death by his wife: Mary K. Helf; a daughter: Nancy L. Crowe; 2 brothers: Ernest and Lawrence Helf and 3 sisters: Marian Roose, Lela Boyd and Laverne Pressler.
