Wayne J. Harpel age 77 of LaOtto, IN died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 at his home. He was born March 19, 1933 in Fort Wayne, IN to Rudolph J. and Gertrude (Jordan) Harpel and they preceded him in death. He married Rosemary H. Cartwright on July 14, 1951 in Fort Wayne, IN and she survives in LaOtto, IN. Wayne was a paint technician at Tokheim Company - Fort Wayne, IN for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Garrett Eagles, Knights of Columbus Council 1790, and Blessed Sacrament Church in Albion. Wayne is survived by his wife: Rosemary Harpel, LaOtto, IN and 4 sons: Rex and Rita Harpel, Garrett, IN; Edward and Karen Harpel, LaOtto, IN; Ronald and Wendi Harpel, Lyman, SC and Chad Harpel, LaOtto, IN. and a daughter - Dolores and Gary Whitcomb, Palm Bay, FL. 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren survive. Also surviving is a sister - Dolores Trammel, Columbia City. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sons: Robert, Raymond, Ronnie and Richard Harpel. 2 brothers: Jack and Raymond Harpel also preceded Wayne in death. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Thomas Funeral Home - Garrett, IN, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. and also from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church in Albion, IN. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Albion, IN. with Fr. Lourdino Fernandes officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery - Avilla, IN. Memorials are to the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund.
