William "Bill" C. Truesdell October 23, 1944 - July 26, 2014 William "Bill" C. Truesdell Jr., age 69 of Garrett, died on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born October 23, 1944 in Detroit, MI to the late William C. Truesdell Sr. and Dorothy J. (Decker) Truesdell. He graduated from Redford Union High School in 1962, where he was honored as an All-American Swimmer in 1962. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1966 with a B.S. in Accounting and then earned his MBA in Finance. Bill served in the US Navy from 1966-1987, retiring as a Commander. He served on the USS Hissem and USS Kitty Hawk and was stationed in California, Hawaii, Virginia and Washington D.C. He served his last 5 years at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. In Bill's second career, he worked as Finance Manager/Controller for Summit Circuits in Huntertown and Univertical Corporation in Angola. He also was self-employed as an IRS registered Tax Return Preparer, Hissem Tax Service in Garrett. He married Amy L. Snyder on October 19, 1996 at the Hamilton United Methodist Church in Hamilton and she survives in Garrett. Bill was a member of Garrett United Methodist Church and served on the finance committee. A dedicated member of the Masonic Home Lodge #342 in Fort Wayne serving as Worshipful Master in 2001 and Northeastern Lodge #210 in Fremont. He was on the Board of Directors and finance committee for RISE Inc. since 2008. He was also a member of the National Association of Tax Preparers. During his retirement he wanted to use his knowledge and skills to help others by volunteering as an AARP Tax Preparer at the DeKalb County Council on Aging for the past 7 years. He valued and treasured his Family, our Armed Forces and his Masonic Brothers. Bill is also survived by a son, Kyle E. Truesdell and a daughter, Erin E. Truesdell both of Virginia; step son, J. Brock Dutton of Fort Wayne; step daughter, Kelle R. McNeil and "Paw Paw's" two boys, Brycen and Owen McNeil all of Auburn; brother, Robert "Bob" H. (Patti) Truesdell of Pleasant Ridge, MI; nephew, Cory W. (Danielle) Truesdell and two great nieces Lucy and Molly Truesdell all of Pleasant Ridge, MI and lifetime friend, Eric (Nancy) Jones of Redford Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, with a masonic service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Garrett United Methodist Church, with calling from 1-2 p.m. Dr. Scott Shoaff and Rodney Snyder will officiate. Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton. Memorials are to DeKalb County Council on Aging, Northeastern Lodge #210 or Garrett United Methodist Church.
