William J. "Bill" Carlin, 81, of Garrett, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at his home in Garrett. Bill was born on December 16, 1943, in Garrett, to Joseph M. and Helen A. (McDonald) Carlin. He was a US Army veteran, serving his country in Vietnam. Bill was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in 2002 after 28 years of dedicated service. Prior to that, he was employed by Magnavox Corporation for 14 years. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett, where he served on the Board of Trustees for 25 years. Bill's service to the community continued through his 38 years leading the Garrett Police Reserves.
On June 15, 1968, he married Mary L. Summers in Auburn. She survives in Garrett. Also surviving are son, Wm. Joe (Mary) Carlin, Jr. of Garrett; daughter, Tina (Randy) Wooldridge of Garrett; 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joan M. Bobay.
Funeral services will be 11:00am, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at First Church of Christ, 213 E. King St., Garrett, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Visitation is also from 3-7pm, Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 CR 56, Garrett. Burial with military honors will be at Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett.
