Obituary

William "Bill" A. Ort age 94 of Garrett, IN died Thursday evening at Millers Merry Manor in Garrett. He was born April 27, 1918 in Garrett to Charles A. and Frances J. (Erickson) Ort and they preceded him in death. He married Victoria "Vickie" M. Sherban on January 3, 1948 in Garrett and she survives in Garrett. William owned and operated Ort's Furniture and Jewelry with his family for 39 years. He was a WW II 8th Air Force veteran, a member of the First Church of Christ in Garrett, 60 year member of the Garrett American Legion and VFW and over 50 year member of the Garrett Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Knight Templar, Mizpah Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star. William is also survived by a daughter, Alice (Jerry) Weller of Garrett; a son, William "Chuck" (Terry) Ort of Garrett; a son in-law, Wayne Boltz of Garrett, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Boltz and 2 sisters, Madolin Ort and Helen Ort. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Thomas Funeral Home and from 1 - 2 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at the First Church of Christ in Garrett. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at the First Church of Christ with Brother Bud Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Christian Union Cemetery in Garrett with military graveside services by the Garrett American Legion and VFW. Memorials are to the First Church of Christ, Waves of Mercy Haiti Christian Mission and Shriner's Children's Hospital.
