John T McCory

JOHN T. McCORY, 86, of Fort Wayne and Sun City Center, Fla., died Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center - Fort Wayne. Born Sept. 25, 1936, in Sheridan, Ind., he was a son of John W. and Evelyn Ruth (Thompson) McCory. He married Ellamae Baumgartner on Nov. 26, 1965 in Fort Wayne. John taught at Fort Wayne Central High School and Northrop High School for 41 years, retiring in June of 1999. He was past president of the Indiana Campground Owners Association and he and his wife owned their own campground for 34 years. He was also an Indiana State Parks Naturalist for 14 years. He was a member of Christ Hope- Huntertown, Ind., past board member of the Fox Island Alliance, Isaac Walton League and Acres. John is survived by his wife, Ellamae McCory of Fort Wayne; son, John R. (Donna) McCory of Mill Valley, Calif.; daughter, Maureen (Russ) Hire of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Ryan, T.J, Connor, and Adrian; sister, Sally Leeper of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Richard C. (Mary Ann) McCory of Nineveh, Ind.; and brother-in-law, Larry Chastain of Indianapolis, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Evelyn Ruth McCory; sister, Mary Chastain; and brother in-law, Jim Leeper. Service is 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Christ Hope, 2818 Carroll Road, Huntertown (IN  46818), with visitation noon to 1 p.m.  Pastor Jim Platner officiating. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the church. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery - Fort Wayne, Ind. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Fox Island Alliance.
