Ruth E. (Hess) Heffelfinger

Ruth E. Heffelfinger age 99 of Garrett, IN and formerly of Auburn, IN died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Miller’s  Merry Manor – Garrett, IN. Ruth was born October 20, 1920 in Avilla, IN to George M. and Lenor  S. (Mead) Hess  and they preceded her in death. Ruth married Keith M. Heffelfinger on August 10, 1940 in Avilla, IN and he died March 24, 1994.

Ruth was a homemaker and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, IN and former member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church – Pine Valley. She was also a member of the Garrett Historical Society.

Ruth is survived by 3 sons: David E. and Mary E. Heffelfinger, Auburn, IN; Mark L. and Darlene Heffelfinger, Milwaukee, WI; Keith J. and Carol Heffelfinger, Churubusco, IN; daughter: Mary G. and Lester Wessel, Wimberley, TX; 12 Grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; sister: Lois Diehm, Kendallville, IN.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband: Keith M. Heffelfinger; parents: George M. and Lenor S. Hess; brothers: Richard, Hubert, Howard, Merlyn, George, Merton and Richard Hess, sisters: Eileen Stein and Genevieve Carson.

Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN . Due to the restrictions of COVID 19, there will be a maximum of 25 people allowed in the funeral home at a time. We ask that you wait outside and adhere to social distancing while waiting in line. The family requests masks are worn if possible.

A private family service will take place with Pastor Jonathan Nack officiating.

Burial will take place in Cedar Creek Cemetery – Auburn, IN.

Memorials are to Trinity Lutheran Church – Auburn, IN or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church – Pine Valley.
