Steven E. Davis Sr.

Steven E. Davis Sr. age 79 of Garrett, IN died Friday, January 15 2021 at Parkview Regional Medical Center – Ft. Wayne, IN. Steven was born April 6, 1941 in New Castle, IN to Edgar C. and Iva Ree (Mundy) Davis and they preceded him in death. Steve was a United States Army Veteran – serving in Korea during Vietnam. Steven married Linda L. Freeze on August 20, 1960 in Garrett, IN. He was a machine operator at Dana Corporation for 43 years, retiring in 2005. He had been working at Home Depot since then.

Steven was a member of the Garrett American Legion, VFW, Forrest Masonic Lodge #239, active union member, Boy Scout Troop #178 leader, Boy Scouts of America – Anthony Wayne Area Council since 1973, having received his Order of the Arrow and Silver Beaver awards. Steven enjoyed spending time with his family.

Steven is survived by his wife: Linda L. Davis, Garrett, IN; son: Steven E. (Tracy) Davis Jr. Auburn, IN; daughter – Jennifer (Dustin) Schweitzer, Huntertown, IN; Grandsons: Jeremy (Alyssa) Davis, Auburn, IN; Joshua (Kristen) Davis, Auburn, IN; Jacob Davis, Auburn, IN; great grandchildren: Violet Davis, Tilian Davis, Addelynn Davis, Brooklynn Davis and Callan Davis, all of Auburn, IN. brother: James (Sherrie) Davis, Columbus, OH; 4 sisters: Jane (Paul) Yoh, Leo, IN; Carol (Frank) Pion, Ft. Wayne, IN; Becky (Mike Sulkowski) Davis, Ft. Wayne, IN; Leanne (John) Hatzidakis, Denver, CO.; sister in-law: Debra (Phil Mussallem) Boyd, Ft. Wayne, IN; brother In-law  and sister in-law: Jack (Edna) Freeze, Garrett, IN.

 Steven was preceded in death by his parents: Edgar C. and Iva Ree Davis; brothers: Bob Davis and Tom (Cindy) Davis; brother in-law and sister in-law: Jim (Diane) Freeze.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Home, 1277 C.R. 56, Garrett, IN.

American Legion walk through at 6 p.m. and Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

As per Governor Holcomb’s mandate – only 25 people are allowed in the funeral home at one time, so you should be prepared to wait outside. Face masks covering the nose and mouth are mandatory and social distancing will be followed.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Wilcoxson officiating.

Burial will take place in Christian Union Cemetery – Garrett, IN with military honors by the United States Army, Garrett American Legion and VFW.

Memorials are to the Garrett American Legion or Boy Scout Troop #178.
